There are times when doing the right thing can feel like the exact opposite.

While we might like to think that we know the difference between right and wrong, it is entirely possible for this to get confused by different people and circumstances. Our head can tell us one thing, but our heart says another. It makes being decisive in our actions incredibly difficult.

Some individuals may have a vested interest in trying to confuse us. They think that if they explain themselves in a certain way or successfully lay on a guilt trip, you will help them get away with actions that should not be happening. It is easy to end up as an accomplice in an act that is just plain wrong if they are good enough at manipulating things.

The workplace can be one of those areas of life where people are especially susceptible to being pulled in the wrong direction. Sometimes, company policy says one thing, but your conscience says another. It makes acting on a scenario that requires swift action a lot more difficult than it has to be. Even when you are being reassured that you made the correct choice, it can leave you with doubts.

In this story, a retail worker was taking over from her coworker at the cash register when he told her that a customer had lost a wallet. He then went home, and not long afterwards, a woman came into the shop looking for her boyfriend's wallet.
The employee tried to find the wallet for her, but it was nowhere to be seen, and it eventually transpired that her colleague had taken it home with him. The situation escalated, and the owner of the wallet got angry. She felt she had no choice but to report this to management, but she was left feeling guilty for her decision.
